Jeffrey Bernett
In September, 1995, Jeffrey Bernett founded the New York based studio B as a multi-disciplinary design consultancy to conceive and promote projects in a wide range of design disciplines.
At the May 1996 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City, Bernett presented his first collection of furniture accessories/objects entitled “Ideas for Production” which was awarded the 1996 Editor’s Award for the “Best of Show”. At the ICFF in May of 2000, Bernett, along with five other designers, was named “Best New Designer” for work with U.S. manufacturer Dune.
Bernett continues to work in many areas — interior architecture, transportation design, furniture, household products, lighting, fashion accessories, design communication and strategic planning — winning numerous design awards along the way. In the emerging global market for design, Bernett has often been the first American chosen to work with several of his European clients. A current client list includes Authentics, B&B Italia, Bernhardt Design, Boffi, Cappellini, Dune, Estée Lauder, Hidden, Magis, Michael Kors, Moooi, Northwest Airlines, Ligne Roset, Swedese and Troy.
The design work of Bernett is widely publicized, including feature articles in the December 2002 Esquire, September 2002 Design Diffusion News/DDN, September 2002 Italian Elle Décor, August 2002 Japanese Elle Deco, July/August 2002 Residence, June/July 2002 A&W (Architektur & Wohnen), May 2002 Intramurous, Spring/Summer 2002 Arena. In addition, Bernett is also a frequent lecturer at schools and design events around the world.
A midwesterner, Jeffrey Bernett was born in Champaign, Illinois, and studied business at Northwestern University and University of Minnesota before pursuing furniture design at Parnham College in England.
