Ignacia Murtagh - Bernhardt Textiles

Ignacia Murtagh

Ignacia Murtagh is a young designer from Santiago, Chile. She designs not only functional pieces, but also beautiful objects by mixing cultural, historical and theoretical aspects.

Murtagh earned her bachelor’s degree in design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Following graduation, Murtagh continued her education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Furniture Design and the Royal College of Art in London in Ceramic Design Post Experience Program. Upon completing the program, Murtagh interned with the Royal Crown Derby, a bone china manufacture in Derby, UK.

Her source of inspiration is found by experimenting with materials and techniques, the limit between handmade process with mechanization and industry, developing objects that create an aesthetic experience, and opening the user to the essence of the object beyond its functionality.

Her work includes ceramic, product and furniture design that clearly communicates cultural aspects brought up-to-date for modern times and needs. Her ceramic background is slip casting in bone china, porcelain and stoneware.
