Konstantin Grcic

PLANK designer Konstantin Grcic (*1965) first completed an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker at Parnham College (Dorset, England), followed by a master’s degree in design at the Royal College of Art in London. Since founding his office in Munich in 1991, he has developed furniture, products, and lighting for leading design companies. Today, he works with his office, Konstantin Grcic Design from Berlin, on various industrial and furniture design projects, exhibition design, and collaborations in architecture and fashion.

Many of his products have won international design awards (including Compasso d’Oro 2001/2011/2016) and are now part of the permanent collections of some of the most renowned museums (including MoMA/New York, Centre Georges Pompidou/Paris). Solo exhibitions of his work have been shown at Haus der Kunst (Munich, 2006), The Art Institute of Chicago (2009), Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein, 2014), Neue Sammlung (Munich, 2015) and Haus am Waldsee (Berlin, 2022), among others. He has curated and staged exhibitions at the Serpentine Gallery (London, 2009), the German Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2012), the Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein, 2018/2021), and the MAXXI Museum (Rome, 2020), among others. Since 2020, he has held a professorship for design at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg, and since 2022, he has been a member of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin.
